This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

A squid dissection offers students a unique opportunity to explore biology in a hands-on, engaging way. Through this experience, students can:

Understand Animal Anatomy: They learn about the internal and external structures of the squid, including organs such as the gills, beak, ink sac, and siphon, and how these structures support the animal’s survival.

Explore Adaptations: Students discover how squid are adapted to their environment—such as jet propulsion for movement, camouflage with chromatophores, and specialized sensory organs.

Compare Body Systems: They can compare the squid’s organ systems (digestive, circulatory, nervous) to those of other animals and humans, reinforcing concepts of biological diversity and evolutionary relationships.

Practice Scientific Skills: Dissections help students develop important lab skills such as observation, following procedures, using dissection tools safely, and making detailed scientific drawings and notes.
