My Project
Small group is a pivotal time for reteaching and extending learning in every elementary classroom. As the 5th grade science teacher, I am constantly pulling small groups to help reinforce the challenging vocabulary associated with each concept.
My goal is to make sure that all students have the opportunity to succeed in science, feel confident about their abilities and pass their science End of Grade Test.
In order to ensure success, I regularly pull students to work on various tasks during class. I also pull students during our "What I Need" block each afternoon to help remediate concepts that might have been missed.
Currently, my small group table has two stools that are on their last leg and close to breaking. Since my groups often consist of more than two students, they must drag chairs from desks to the table. In class this is less of a problem but in the groups that meet in the afternoon, they have to find a desk that doesn't already have a student sitting at it and bring that chair to the table. They have been begging me for more stools all school year!
The high-quality stools I am considering (as recommended by a colleague who loves them) would allow more students to participate comfortably in my small groups. This would allow science groups to more productive as well.
