Help me give my students these sensory materials they need in order to take calm and MUCH needed sensory breaks. These sensory materials will also help my students cope positively through times of frustration, sadness, and/or anger.
I have the privilege to be teaching 10 sweet little boys in a self-contained Autism classroom. My students put a smile on my face every single day. They are energetic, loving, and eager to learn.
My students require frequent movement breaks with sensory objects (squishy balls, weighted vests, dancing, etc.) They require frequent rewards (breaks in the sensory space, time with toys/trains/books, etc.) My students use a Working For card with a five penny system, where they earn pennies by completing their work, making good choices, etc.
They choose what their reward will be from a Choice Board. My students will LOVE any contribution to our welcoming, caring, student-centered, learning-focused classroom.
These sensory items will make my classroom a more welcoming, calm, and safety-focused classroom. Items such as the weighted vests, sensory boat, and squishy toys will help my students calm down during times of frustration, anger, and/or sadness. These materials will serve as a safe way for my students to cope positively.
Items such as the wiggle board, scooters, and trampoline will give my students the movement breaks they need throughout their day in order to focus on learning during instruction!
Items such as the classroom calendar set and velcro will help me provide a fun, interactive morning meeting to discuss daily topics like the day, month, weather, and season! The velcro will help me create a structured daily schedule board for my students, where they will work on independent skills by checking their schedule during transitions.
