We reside in a Title I school, which means there is very little funding, yet we have such a high need for supplies!
My students are all amazing, unique, loving and energetic humans! They are vibrant and brave, active and creative. My students have a variety of diagnoses including but not limited to: Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, ED, Down Syndrome, LD, and multiple disabilities. I have verbal students as well as nonverbal students. All of my students have difficulty with communication skills, social skills, and struggle to process sensory information.
Our class is bare and supplies are minimal. My students deserve the best, and at the very least deserve the items deemed necessary to help them self-regulate, de-stress and provide imperative sensory stimulation.
My Project
We are excited to have finally researched and chosen what each students senior project will be. I teach self-contained high school students who are required to have a Capstone/ Senior Project just like everyone else. We have a bit more flexibility as to what they are allowed to choose so I ran with it. What do you want to do? Art, Music, Science, Cooking/ Baking, Gardening? Tell me your wish and we will figure out a way to make it happen. Bam! The kids got thinking and researched for the past month. We have a few students who are still making final decisions but these resources will help get those who have chosen an opportunity to get started.
My students are each unique and extremely creative.
The requested resources will help my students expand their imaginations while enabling them to contribute to making their own classroom come to life. My students are beyond creative. I have found that students enjoy learning when they feel pride in what they are using.
The projects chosen thus far are: Building a car out of legos, create a clay creation (paint and tools needed for these), building a boat out of popsicle sticks, woodworking, making a skit on a presentation board, paper mache artwork and create paintings. Isn't that amazing?! I love how creative these kids are! I cannot wait to share pictures of their progress and finished products.
