My students need a digital microscope to view specimens during physical and life science. We also need the Schoolhouse Rock "Earth" video to help reinforce concepts.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember in biology or chemistry class when you first saw something under a microscope? Even the most odd things like a shoelace or sponge just seem more exciting under closer view.
My 5th graders are very inquisitive and LOVE Science.
Everyday they can't wait to start Science and our Science notebooks are chocked full of investigations we have completed. These children are from a Title I school and do not have many resources available to them nor do they have the background knowledge and experiences that many children have. They are bright, enthusiastic learners who are fascinated with the world around them.
My Project
We spend a great deal of time observing the properties of matter in 5th grade and use our hand lenses to get a closer view on a daily basis. With the new digital microscope, we can take a closer look at the intricacies of our salt and sugar crystals, the textures of different soils, look at details of earth materials, and view insect specimens. This will be projected on a large screen so all students will be able to make detailed drawings in their Science notebooks and everyone will have the opportunity to view the same image in a very large view. My students love the Schoolhouse Rock videos. They beg to watch them and it really helps solidify new concepts. I hear them humming and singing the lyrics of various songs from the videos. Learning is enhanced when students see and hear the concepts. They are very engaged in learning during these short videos.
This project is important to my classroom and my students because it brings technology into their learning, and brings a new perspective to everyday objects.
It will greatly enhance their learning of the world around them. We would greatly appreciate your support on our project.
