This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember learning about Science in 1st grade... me neither. That is why I want to find fun and exciting ways to teach 1st grade Science concepts that my students will remember.

My students are from a high poverty school in Southern California.

I have a classroom of 24 students. The majority are English Language Learners who receive free or reduced lunch. They come from homes where both parents work. Some are latch key kids or spend a lot of time with babysitters. My students love learning but do not always have access to materials that encourage them to learn at their full capacity.

My Project

These science materials will help me teach our 1st grade science concepts in a fun and exciting way. The books will help the kids visualize animals in their habitat. The puzzles will reinforce weather, matter, plant and animal vocabulary. The file folder games will be great for the kids who finish their work first. They will have an activity that will reinforce with what was just taught to them. The science journals will be a fun way for them to explain and record their observations made during that day's science lesson.

Many of my students do not have a lot of science background knowledge.

Any extra materials that visually enhance their learning is greatly appreciated. I want them to be excited to learn our 1st grade core science standards.
