My students need a hot plate, human and animal x-ray sets, trail camera, water droppers, wall thermometers, bingo games, and electricity activity tub for a hands-on fun scientific learning experience.
My students are in grades 2 through 5, and they love science! We have an abundance of children from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of our kids have little access to technology or other tools at home, or even a safe place to explore nature. The experiences of our students are often limited; many have not been to a museum, a science center, or a zoo.
Their eyes light up when it's time to learn science!
Every day, we discuss science concepts: physical science, earth and space science, and life science. The saying "a picture is worth a thousand words" is perfect for our situation. How can students picture the world of science without being able to see it?
We are a high-poverty school with over 55% students receiving free and reduced lunch services. My students come from all different backgrounds, but they all have the fact that they LOVE to learn in common!
My Project
Due to our school having a limited budget and needing to focus on testing subjects, science is one subject that we are severely lacking materials for. Hands-on materials will help my students explore the world that is Science. My students need Bingo games that not only teach them but are so much fun they don't realize they are learning. We need a hot plate for boiling water/making vapor so my students can actually see something change states. We need thermometers so we can learn about weather, humidity, temperatures and learn to read thermometers. We need water droppers for experiments. We are so lucky that our school backs up to a wooded area and a trail camera would show us the wildlife that is behind our school and very active. We also need human and animal x-rays to study bones. The circuit kit will allow my students the challenge to build electrical circuits and experiments with electricity safely.
Science is a subject that opens the door to so many careers and a solid hands-on science experience is what every child deserves.
These supplies would bring my classroom to the level it needs to be and make learning so much fun for our kids. They deserve to have fun and learn at the same time. Who knows maybe your donation will inspire the next doctor or engineer!
