Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help us become super science sleuths!! My class would like to have more tools for observation available in our classroom. I would love for them to be able to use what we have learned about our five senses and observations with new tools in our science center.
My first graders live in a rural area of Florida.
The school has a very high percentage of students who receive free or reduced price lunch. Many of my students' parents do not speak English at home. Also, we are a school without walls. This is a challenge trying to find activities where students are actively engaged without making too much noise to disturb other classrooms.
My Project
These resources would help my students explore the world around them. We have had the opportunity of people around the country sending us sand. I would love to have the microscope in the classroom to allow the students to make sand slides to view under the microscope. We also will use the other slides to view the world around us in different ways. The plant viewers will allow the students to view the roots of the plant without destroying the plant and observe the different stages as it grows.
These materials will allow the students to make observations in our classroom and will expand their observational skills beyond the science lab.
Having these materials will also be more convenient in that we will not have to see if the science lab has the materials or if someone is using it. It will also allow us to expand our sands of the United States project into science.
