Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of my students come from homes with few books and reading materials, and thus have not yet learned what a joy it is to turn pages and explore a new world. As our state and national standards are changing, so are the expectations of what our youngest learners must learn.

My kindergarten students attend a Title I school in a low income community.

Most come from Spanish-speaking homes, and for some, kindergarten is their first exposure to an all-English learning environment. This group of students is curious to learn about the world in which they live.

My Project

My students need 42 copies of Scholastic News Magazine to develop a passion for reading. Scholastic News Magazine will help my students with developing academic vocabulary, learning about social studies, and exploring scientific topics. Through the use of this magazine, my students will practice pre-reading skills and recognize kindergarten site vocabulary, all while learning about current events and the sciences at their level. They will also be allowed to take home the magazine to share with their family members. Scholastic News Magazine will help my students develop a vocabulary for speaking and asking questions about the world in which they live. Inspiring children to read and instilling in them the desire to become lifelong learners is an immeasurable gift. Through your support in bringing Scholastic News Magazine to my classroom, my students will begin their journey to become lifelong readers and learners.

As our state and national educational standards are changing, more of an emphasis is being placed on nonfiction texts and on asking and answering questions.

My students need 42 copies of Scholastic News Magazine to boost their academic vocabulary, practice asking and answering questions about their world, and get excited about reading works of nonfiction.
