This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember playing, coloring and napping all day in Kindergarten? Well, all of that has changed! With the focus of Kindergarten changing over time, the need for hands-on learning games and activities has increased. These centers will help develop learning while keeping Kindergarten fun!
My school is a Title one, inner-city school where most of the students are on free or reduced lunch.
The students in my class are energetic, loving students who are excited about school and about learning to read. They love center time because they feel they are playing, when in reality, they are learning through play.
My Project
As mentioned earlier, children learn through play. These centers will allow the students hands-on reading instruction so that they are able to learn through play and from their peers. Students will learn rhyming skills, phonemic awareness, sight word recognition and sentence building through the use of these centers.
Kindergarten is the beginning of school learning and the foundation of what's to come throughout a child's school career.
It is important that resources are plentiful and educational in order to provide the maximum benefit, while keeping students engaged. The addition of these centers to my classroom will do just that.
