This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember when you were first learning to read? You would look at the letters in a word and try to figure out each sound in order to put the letters together to read and say the word.

I teach 17 enthusiastic and eager kindergartners at a Title I Reading First School.

They are anxious to not only learn to read, but to read well. Many struggle to sound out the letters in words in order for the letters to make a word that make sense. Their frustration can often be seen on their faces as they work to read. Our classroom does not have independent learning centers where my students can practice their literacy skills with a partner or two.

My Project

Independent literacy centers for letter sounds, rhyming words, and sight words will give my students the opportunity to practice the skills they need to learn to read words in books. Having become a class at the 20 day count my students do not have many of the materials that other kindergarten classrooms have - these literacy centers would be greatly welcomed and appreciated by my kindergrtners.

Your donations to providing independent literacy centers will open a whole new world of for my student to be able to decode words as they read.

My students will practice literacy skills through the use of center materials and be able to use what they have learned as they begin to read books with me, a buddy, or themselves. They will increase in their self-confidence and this will be seen in their ability to not only to begin to read but read well.
