My Students

"Whatever you are, be a good one," Abraham Lincoln once said. That is my goal for my students. I want them to have the knowledge and skills to be successful thinkers and doers in whatever path they choose in life.

Our school is a fifth and sixth grade campus.

We have around 900 fifth and sixth graders enrolled. My students are from a low income area. I have about 50 students between my two classes. The majority of my students qualify for free or reduced priced lunch. Many of my families receive government assistance so there is not always money readily available for school supplies. Many of my students depend on school provided supplies in order to be successful. Along with native English speakers there are many English language learners working in my classroom.

My Project

These supplies will be distributed to my 50 students by table. The bold and fine tip markers will allow them to put personal touches and color code assignments for increased comprehension. Our school is very big on graphic organizers and using color with a purpose. These supplies will definitely allow them to show the meaning and ideas behind their thinking. I have also requested red checking pens and notebook paper. In fifth grade we do a lot of writing. The extra paper will allow my students to work without having to worry about where they will get the paper from.

These donations will make a difference because they will allow my students to take ownership over their assignments and put their personal mark on them.

Students are able to better retain information if they can color code the information they are presenting and if they make it more personal to them. Having the materials readily available at their table groups will cut down transition times and increase learning in our classroom.
