Super Food to Cook for Teens

My students need slow cookers, a mini refrigerator, microwave, and cookbooks to prepare delicious and healthy meals from their school garden plants.

My Students

Before school every morning, students work in our small urban garden, carefully weeding, composting, and watering. When the food plants grow, our students will harvest and learn to cook nutritional snacks (using our library cookbooks!)

Students are working on middle and high school classes as well as credit recovery.

Many have been in the juvenile justices system and live in group homes. Students will learn to make and cook healthy food choices. They will learn science, nutrition, and fun!

My Project

My students need slow cookers, a mini refrigerator, microwave, and cookbooks to prepare delicious and healthy meals from their school garden plants. With new cooking supplies in our science class, students will learn nutritional facts, basic food preparation, reading recipes and measuring ingredients, cooking safety, and how to enjoy healthy snacks! Students will be encouraged to experiment with fresh ingredients and write their own recipes.

Students will grow organic produce in our urban school garden.

Students will learn about compost, soil amendments, and other garden science. Students will research and cook healthy snacks. We will collect and publish student recipes to share with future classes.
