This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Let me start off by saying I have the best group of 5th grade students a teacher could ask for! These students care about each other, their community, and global issues. They are eager to learn, and once they know something they want to teach others and are always finding creative ways to do so - creating clubs, performing plays, and giving Google slides presentations. They are wonderful role models to the rest of the school, demonstrating daily what responsible students should say and do. I love to brag about my students every chance I get.

Although not everyone performs at grade level, everyone is trying and taking risks, and pushing themselves and encouraging their peers to do better every day!

What more could a teacher ask for?

My Project

Six years ago I received a Donors choose project for hula hoops and we have put all of those hoops to good use! I only have 5 of the originals left and all of those have kinks and bends to them.

We need new hula hoops and a rack, enough for a whole class to use concurrently.

Right now I can only offer hula hoops to a handful of students to use as a free choice activity. I would like to once again be able to teach hoop dancing as a physical education class to all of my students.

Did you know, according to the American Counsel on Exercise, hula hooping for one hour can burn 400 calories which is equivalent to being on a treadmill for an hour? Hoop dancing helps with coordination, balance, strengthens your heart, works our abdominal muscles, and provides a fun cardiovascular workout.
