My Students
First grade is an exciting year! Students are growing as readers, writers, and mathematicians every day. They are learning to work collaboratively, problem-solve, and are building independence. My goal is to create a classroom environment where all students feel safe and respected.
Over twenty-five percent of the students at my school are military connected.
This means that we have students moving in and out of our school all the time. We are proud of our military families and aim to make our school feel like home!
My school works hard to ensure that all students' needs are met, both academically, emotionally, and socially!
My Project
My first grade students love center time! We have recently launched reading, writing, and math centers in our classroom. Centers enable students to practice skills in small groups on a daily basis. It allows me to differentiate students' instruction and make sure that all students' needs are being met.
While students are working together in centers, I am able to meet with students in small groups and provide targeted instruction and meet students where they are!
The math whiteboards will enable students to show their thinking in a variety of ways. It will make it easier for students to use strategies, such as drawing a picture or counting up and back on the number line. The number line whiteboards will be great for small group instruction as students can interact with them and then wipe them off when they are done! The CVC puzzles and vowel sorting games will help strengthen students' reading skills.
By having a variety of center materials, I am better able to meet the needs of all of my students! Thank you so much for considering our project!
