Help me give my students the Who Was and What Was series and more to continue building their reading comprehension and history knowledge of people and places.
My school is a large community school where all of the students live within two miles of the school. I have a diverse population of students - my school serves over 50% minorities and 50% economically disadvantaged. We also have a large military population (25%) as well as students who speak other languages as their primary language. My classes include a very broad range of skill levels with some students at or above grade level and others below grade level.
My Project
The Bicycle Spy, Superstar, and Tumble & Blue are just a few of the Sunshine State Young Reader Award books that have been selected for next school year. These books are some of the ones that my students will need to read in order to participate in a Battle of the Books (BOB) competition that we hope to have again next year. The series Who Was and What Was have gained a lot of student's interest recently. These books allow my students to read about important people and places/events that we don't always get to learn about.
My goal is to raise funds to purchase these books for my bright, young and growing readers.
I want to be able to provide my students with additional book choices in the classroom that will also give them some additional history lessons as well.
