I work at an amazing school. Our community is close-knit, and many, like myself, grew up in our town. My students represent all different backgrounds, socio-economic status, and ethnicities. The staff works hard to provide meaningful instruction and memories that will last a lifetime.
My students are encouraged to be readers!
It's my goal to instill a love of learning through reading, and I feel that books in their hands give them the greatest chance to go on an adventure, meet new people, or travel to faraway places...all through a book.
My Project
Each year, a list of books are published called the Sunshine State Young Readers Award. This list is selected by librarians around the state to encourage independent reading for pleasure. Their wide appeal, varied genres, connections, and multicultural representation make them favorites among students.
Sunshine State books are one every child should have access to!
Having them in my classroom makes them accessible to my students all year long, versus having to wait to get their hands on them in our school library. These books will continue to encourage a love for reading.
