Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My fifth students are amazing students with unlimited potential, but they lack resources in the classroom to fully explore their ideas. The students come from low-income homes where for some the only they interact with educational items is at school. Our entire school receives free breakfast, lunch, and dinner due to need. My students have a genuine love for learning. They love to come in early and stay late to help and learn. I want to be able to nurture that love before it is lost.
My Project
Every year Florida picks a collection of book that they suggest children in grades 3rd to 5th to read. Our School library orders a few copies but there is no way to order enough for them to keep enough in circulation.
Having a set of Sunshine State Books in my classroom will allow my students to read them and to vote on their favorite book at the end of the year.
Our school also has incentives for students who read Sunshine State Books including charms and prizes and I want to give my students all the opportunities to read these excellent books and participate in the incentives.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
