My students need 12 solar cells, 24 DC motors, 4 packages of alligator clips and 6 clamp lamps.

Power to the Sun! If we harness the energy from the sun, then we can run anything! My 6th grade NH science class loves their electronics and always assume they will be able to power them up. I know our resources are limited and hope to instill in my students a drive to find alternate sources of energy.
My students are fascinated with solar power. They think it is so cool but do not realize that it can be used for everyday things. Our class is studying electricity which they understand powers their electronics. After learning the limitations of this resource, I want them to understand how solar power works and apply it to their own electronics. My district has limited funds due to the economy and I am not able to buy the equipment for an in depth study.
If we could get solar panels with mini-motors, my class could do a hands-on study of solar power using some clamp lamps as sun sources. I hope to have them design different uses for their new power sources. Anytime students get "do" science instead of just hearing or seeing science, they grasp the concepts so much better.
Please make a difference in their learning. Your donation might spark an idea or zest for learning science that could affect our future. Furthermore, this equipment will be shared with 2 other teams of 6th graders reaching 240 students and 3 science teachers. You can inspire the next generation of scientists challenged with finding alternative sources of energy.
