Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach first grade to 24 students in a low socio-economic area. 12 of my students are English Language Learners and the majority are on free or reduced lunch. My students are from a Title One school. Many of them come from economically disadvantaged circumstances. Even though they face economic challenges, they come to school each day eager to learn new things. I want to provide them with every opportunity to be on equal playing fields as their peers in other neighborhoods.
My Project
Some schools send home a supply list at the end of summer so that kids can come to school with full backpacks for the first day of school. At my school, it is up to the teacher to provide all of the necessary materials that kids need to do their work. The markers and crayons are essential to a 1st grade classroom. The construction paper will be used for art projects, book covers and holiday projects. The sentences strips will be used to enhance our new reading curriculum. Kids deserve new supplies at the beginning of the year so their learning feels new, fresh and exciting!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
