My students need healthy snack choices to help them stay focused to be able too produce quality work to qualify for promotion at the end of the summer classes.
My school is a low-income school in the South Bronx. The majority of my students are academically and social-emotionally challenged and suffer from trauma and poverty. As a result, they exhibit depression, anxiety, and exhibit aggressive behaviors on a daily basis. Their parents and caregivers are also struggling and aren't always able to provide their children with the tools they need to even have a chance of success. A large number of our students are living in temporary housing and are traveling over an hour each way just to get to school. This summer we will host summer classes for a large percentage of our population adding to the need for readily available breakfast & snack options.
My Project
This summer a high percentage of our student population will have to attend summer classes. By providing snacks we will be helping them to stay focused and learn. With your help these snacks will help us provide what might essentially be the only source of food for most of the scholars. Additionally, the snacks you help to provide gives us the tools we need to be a helpful resource for the community. We strive to be a safe haven for our scholars and anyway you can help is greatly appreciated. I hope you can find it in your heart to be a blessing to them,
