Summer Reading Book Fairies

My students need books to read over the summer to keep them excited about reading and to help prevent summer reading loss.

My Students

My students come to school with smiles on their faces, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them each day.

My first graders come from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds with over half receiving free or reduced price breakfast and lunch and many also receive backpack food for the weekend.

I am proud to be a part of a caring school community that goes above and beyond to bring every opportunity to our students. My children are curious and engaged learners who love spending every free moment reading books together.

My Project

All of these engaging books will be used to keep my children's passion for reading going all summer long. Each week, I will be a "Book Fairy", distributing and exchanging books to the children during our summer break. I will be surprising children with books in their neighborhoods.

My goal is to inspire the children to become Book Fairies too, so they will begin to pass the books along to each other as they are finished.

My dream would be neighborhoods full of children talking about and sharing books all summer long.

Research indicates how important summer reading is to help prevent summer reading loss, but my hope for this project is to go beyond preventing summer reading loss--I want to continue to grow my children's LOVE for reading!
