This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

With summer approaching, it’s important to think not just how reading connects with our youth during school, but how they have a chance to connect with it on their own. To choose a book of your own, to immerse yourself in that world and create special memories connected to it, is something truly unforgettable for any lifelong reader.

For our fundraiser, a Summer of Possibilities, it’s our hope to connect our students with books they can take home, immerse in and spend the summer broadening the idea of what kind of reader they can be.

This will not only ensure access to books all year long but offer a chance to take all their hard efforts all school year, their questions, their curiosity, and explore it on their own. So that when they return they are full of new ideas, new questions, and a broadened view of how to look at learning and the world. Our students insights are profound, their dedication truly amazing , sometimes they don’t even see how amazing it really is to us educators.

With these books, they’ll have a chance to see that for themselves. So that when they return in the fall to their classrooms, to their libraries, they will see their own reflection in the spaces they helped changed and can inform how they will learn next. To be a lifelong reader means to never feel you are alone, that their is stories and people whom you’ve never met that can tell you they understand, offer new perspectives, and show you that you are special. These are feelings we try to weave into the library space and it’s our hope that they can be feelings taken with their books throughout their summer break. With reading, anything is possible.
