This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from one of the poorest neighborhoods in our area, where all of our students qualify for a free or reduced-price lunch. Our school is a K-8 entity with 99% of the population as a minority. State funding per pupil is less than a public school, which means fewer materials for the school community. We work hard as a team: the teachers, students, families, as well as outside community members work to provide the best education for the children.
Everyone in our building believes we can get the best out of our students and provide them with the resources needed to be successful.
Whatever they may be unable to get at home, we do our best to provide them with at school, often through purchases out of our own pockets because we use whatever means necessary for our kids.
My Project
My students have been learning from home for over a year now. They have worked so hard every single day during our live online lessons.
This project would put together supplies and activities to engage them over the summer months.
I have selected items such as paint, markers, and paper for them to use their creativity. Activities including card games, jump ropes, and sports equipment can provide countless hours of physical activity outside.
All of these items were chosen based upon what the students have told me they are interested in, as well as some that are just plan fun for kids of any age!
