Summer Bridge For Summer Learning

My Students

Every one of these students learns in a different way, and each of them is profoundly unique. They may all be in the same classroom, but they are not the same. Their skin colors are varied, and their backgrounds are as well. Multiple languages are spoken in their homes, and each home has its own struggles. Several of my students have difficulty concentrating due to ADHD, and they need to work hard to compensate. In 5th grade, we are learning in many areas, and are tested in reading, writing, math, and science.

My students are hard-working, eager-to-learn children, who come from homes where their parents value education but have limited resources to support the process.

All of these students want to learn. They may not have much money, but the parents and community are active in the school and value education. They are a joy and a delight to teach. They have a lot of learning to do, and in this class, we strive for success in the process.

My Project

Summer! Time of long days and family activities. Unfortunately it is also the time where learning and comprehension can take a "SLIDE" backwards. With daily, 15-minute exercises kids can review fractions and prepositional phrases and learn new skills like finding volume and understanding homographs. This workbook series prevents summer learning loss and paves the way to a successful new school year.

And this is no average workbook—Summer Bridge Activities keeps the fun and the sun in summer break - designed to prevent a summer learning gap and keep kids mentally and physically active, the hands-on exercises can be done anywhere.

These standards-based activities help kids set goals, develop character, practice fitness, and explore the outdoors. With 12 weeks of creative learning, Summer Bridge Activities keeps skills sharp all summer long!

My students will receive the workbook in class, and practice the learning that is available inside its pages. Parents will be taught how to use the pages with their children. And finally the books will be sent home with students so that they can keep their skills fresh and be ready to start a new school year in August! (PS students who work on the book in the summer will be eligible for a special treat when they return in the fall!)
