This Día de los Muertos, my students will engage deeply with the cultural products, practices, and perspectives of this significant holiday. By creating sugar skulls to honor loved ones, they will have the opportunity to connect personally with the traditions while displaying their creations on our school's altar.
Through this project, my goals are to foster a sense of cultural appreciation among my students and to encourage them to draw comparisons between their own cultures and the traditions of Día de los Muertos.
We will also explore the important distinction between cultural appropriation and appreciation, ensuring that they approach the subject with respect and understanding.
What makes my students special is their unique backgrounds and experiences, which enrich our discussions and deepen their engagement with the material. This project will not only celebrate our community but also provide my students with a meaningful way to engage in Spanish culture.
