My students need alternative seating options to help cultivate a safe learning environment. We would like to purchase two alternative seating choices, the wobbly chair and the legged exercise ball options.
My school is an innovative participatory learning community.
I serve a very diverse community of students with more than 57% of our students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunches.
I work hard to meet the needs of all my students, not only academically but also socially. I provide many supplies and purchase curriculum so that my students have hands-on learning experiences that they will remember. I love teaching, and I love the students I work with. It takes some additional effort and time, but I am fully invested in seeing each of my students grow to love learning! You will be a part of changing their future. It takes a village!
My Project
I have a very diverse group of needs in my classroom. As young learners, and a classroom made up mostly of active young male students, the energy level in the classroom is quite high. Traditional chairs and seating prove to be a challenge for some students that actually need kinesthetic movement to learn and concentrate. With this class I have tried less expensive modes of channeling this energy, from seat cushions and bungee cords at the bottom of chairs, to frequent movement breaks. Fidgets seem to work for some students, but become weapons or entertainment for others.
After much research, I found the wobble chair which helps harness the natural energy of individuals and allows them movement without disrupting learning.
