My Students
With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting hundreds of students in my school, my students were eager to adapt to the remote setting and did so with no complaints and pride. While working from home from mid March until the end of June, I was able to monitor students work, teach live lessons and provide feedback in Google Classroom when needed for students struggling with questions/assignments. Coming back to school at the start of this school year has been a real struggle virtually teaching students who are at home while I am in the building. With limited budgets and limited availability, I have to do all of the mentioned tasks above on a simple 12-inch laptop that cant handle all of these tasks. I love going to my job every day but this becomes frustrating. I teach ELA and Social Studies to 7th grade students with disabilities in Bayside, NY. My students are eager to learn and are some of the nicest kids I have taught in my 10 year career. Being a special education teacher, my students require all the help they deserve and trying to provide them with that on one small screen is nearly impossible.
My Project
Trying to go live in classes with 35+ students daily is a challenge that all teachers are facing in todays climate. Without receiving any aid from the city in the form of teachers choice money, and schools having limited budgets, it is hard for us teachers to have the proper equipment to provide students with all the services they need.
Let's make it so that all students learn during this pandemic.
My students, who mostly have individualized education plans require constant feedback and assistance from myself, the special education teacher. Trying to help them with 20 different windows open on one small screen and provide them with the assistance they require has been my greatest challenge. Having an iPad to launch the live video and an extra monitor to filter through student assignments and leave proper feedback will really improve my ability to provide assistance to a larger quantity of students in a limited amount of time. Thanks for reading and for your consideration. I greatly appreciate it!
