Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in NY. Most of our students come from low income families. Our class is an ICT classroom which provides supports to students with disabilities. The disabilities range from speech-language to autism. An ICT classroom has both general education students and special education students who work in groups to help each other. We use all the resources that are possible and given to us to help our students make progress.
Our students work hard with all the resources and materials that they have.
We enjoy seeing our students working together in partnerships.
My Project
My students learn with materials that they have. My students need to master sight words in order to be successful in reading and understanding the books that they know. Sight word readers and phonics will help them grow as readers. They also use chart paper to help explain their thinking after they read books and magazines while working in groups and/or partnerships and then share with the rest of the class. Leveled books will help my students move up reading levels by working in a guided reading group. They will be able to have more books to read in order to be successful and move up levels. They will also learn to read CVC words which have vowels in the middle and many of my students have a hard time with vowels. The magazine holders will hold our magazine Scholastic News where students will be able to read and then answer questions on chart paper in groups and/or partnerships.
Chart paper is great for my students to use because they take ownership of their learning by sharing what they learned in their reading.
My students share their thinking and enjoy writing on chart paper.
