Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I love how much my preschool students care for one another. When we are outside on the playground if a student falls down and starts to cry a few come to offer help. They find ways to make their friend feel better. They ask questions such as “Why is he/she crying? “What happened to…?” etc.

I remind them everyday to use kind words and to also say what they like or what they don’t like.

To say please or no thank you. When they are in the classroom whether it is during areas of learning or on the carpet I hear them say to other students “please sit criss cross” or “ It hurts my feelings when…” or even when a few want to play in the same area and there is no room, I tell them to ask their friends “when you are done can you please let me play” It makes me proud to hear them communicate and how nicely they respond. They are learning to be kind and show respect to one another.

My Project

Some of my students need fidgeting items to be able to stay calm and focus in class. During story time and whole group instruction is where they need to keep their focus the most. My students get so excited when I pass out our classroom “squeeshies” (Gel-Bead Sensory Shapes) during our whole group instruction. When I get the basket where I keep the squeeshies, they sit on the rug silently and just wait for me to give them one so they can hold on their hands. The fidget items help them stay calm and be better listeners. The need of more fidget items is important to have in my classroom.
