My students come from a school with over 80 percent free and reduce lunch rate. These students struggle with many things that distract from learning such as hunger and absent parents but when they arrive at school they are ready to learn. We provide them with a free breakfast, cheaper lunches, and love and support. They love to have fun and look forward to school everyday.
"Your students’ life experiences are a rich source of background knowledge and potential narrative strategy for you to tap in your classroom.” This quote sums up how I, the teacher, must use the students life experiences to help teach.
My students have a lot of different experiences that normally cause a distraction to them but it's my job to turn these experiences into learning.
The fun, engaging SuperScience magazines will allow my students to have a better chance at getting onto grade level for reading and they will also build their love of reading.
In Missouri, it is extremely important that students are on grade level with reading because of the Senate Bill 319.
The bill states that all 4th graders must be at a beginning of 4th grade level before allowing them to move on to 5th grade. If the student is not on grade level by the end of the year then they must take summer school and possibly 4th grade again.
