My students come from a low-income area with most being single parent or grandparent households. Over 70% of students receive free breakfast and lunch as well. These students are eager to learn most days and school is their safe place. They are eager to learn hobbies and things they can do to help them fill their time and stay away from the negativity of their neighborhoods.
Creativity and creation is an outlet for my students.
Most of our students can't go outside to play because of the negativity in their neighborhoods and safety reasons. If students had an outlet or a healthy hobby to do together, maybe they could teach others in their communities ways to make things.
Many of my students need help with organization. We will use this mailbox organizer to organize materials that need to go home with students. This will give students somewhere to successfully put their finished work to be able to take home and discuss with their loved ones.
As students get ready for middle school they will need these self-organizational skills to succeed in their careers.
The metal shelving system will help students reach their mailboxes so they are at appropriate eye level for students. Students are proud of their work and work really hard to not have something to keep it safe until they take it home to their families.
