My school district thinks that teachers are independent contractors that are responsible for providing students with the tools they need to express themselves. Unfortunately, I do not possess a supplemental income or I would gladly purchase these items for my students.
My students are deserving of all the supplies they need to learn and grow.
We are an environmental studies magnet, which means we expect our students to have creative outlets to problem solve. Most of our students are on free or reduced price lunch and do not have the cash flow to bring their own materials. Our school district only provides the bare minimum for our well deserving children.
My Project
My students will use these supplies during Writers Workshop, Math, English Language Arts, Science, History, and everything in between. They will use these supplies to create projects for their project based learning. Hopefully, they will become problem solvers and stewards of our Earth through an environmental lens.
We need to even the playing field for our children in public education.
We need to provide them every opportunity to be prepared to meet the challenges the world will most like present them. Having the ability to write with the correct tools is a minor step in that direction.
