I need a valuable professional development experience to enhance my teaching skills and resources within my classroom. This experience will directly impact the success of my students!
I am an elementary music teacher. I have the privilege of teaching music to almost 500 students! It is absolutely the best job in the world and my students are the best part of what I get to do for my career. My school is a "Title I" school where the majority of my students are on free or reduced-price meal programs, and come from very diverse backgrounds, culturally and economically.
A portion of my students have special needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, emotional impairments, or need heavy interventions in reading and/or math.
Currently, these students receive one music class per week for 50 minutes. The students with special needs receive music education from a music therapist who comes in from an outside entity. Next year, I will be providing that experience for them and I could not be more excited to be part of it!
These students have already begun to love playing and singing music, and they are ready and willing to further their skills! My students look forward to their once-weekly music time and enter my room full of excitement and wonder about what we have planned for our time together.
My Project
The Michigan Music Conference offers a one-day clinic each year specifically for elementary/general music educators. This clinic is led by well-known, successful educators who have risen to the top of the field through hard work and expertise. This experience is a game-changer for any educator who participates.
I am excited to be part of this clinic and bring back some awesome new teaching techniques for my daily lessons!
Through a full day of guided participation, the clinicians will lead me through planned, detailed lessons, from start to finish, using the most up-to-date teaching methods and new approaches to the instruments we already use. This process will allow me to evaluate my current techniques and make significant changes to enhance my daily lessons. I will be better at meeting my students' needs through exciting and innovative lessons using the materials with which we are already familiar.
It is my goal to always be a learner, just as I expect of my students! I love learning and I want to instill that passion in all of my students. I love being able to teach them from Kindergarten all the way through Fifth grade. In order for me to keep things exciting and fresh, new learning opportunities are a must for me!
I would love to have an opportunity to earn credit for my experiences and be able to feed my fire for teaching and learning!
