Success Begins at the Intersection of Preparation and Opportunity
Help me give my students the proper equipment to develop their photography skills at school sporting events, so they may develop their portfolios and prepare for future careers in photography.
Students select our Business Technology program because they are hard-working, self-motivated, and want to achieve success in life. We teach our students how recognize a need, create a product/service to solve this need, and how to write a business plan and start their own business. Many of our students are talented photographers and would someday like to own a photography business. They need to start developing their portfolios, but, unfortunately, we don't have sufficient photography equipment for them to use, especially for sports photography.
My Project
Students who are motivated, determined, and hard-working are drawn to our Business Technology Vocational Program because we teach them how to come up with their own products/services, write a business plan, and start their own businesses. In our program, students also have the opportunity to compete in several business plan and photography competitions at the high school level.
We have many students who are talented photographers and artists, but our classroom is lacking the necessary equipment for students to take varying types of shots, such as action and sports.
We also need quality photography studio set-ups so that students may take photos of people and products (we also run the school store) with sufficient lighting and the correct backdrop (which can be edited using the software we train students in).
Support for our classroom photography equipment will allow students to take professional photos for the yearbook (which our program runs), the school website and social media accounts, their student portfolios, their digital art projects, competitions, and the school store (products).
This will be a multi-stage project as much equipment is needed to accompany our three existing Canon Rebel T6i DSLR cameras, which are used to serve twenty students. Ultimately, we would like additional cameras and lenses, a professional pop-up studio tent, lighting, and a table studio with lighting for photographing products.
Our school serves students from over 15 surrounding towns, many of which are farming or mill communities with middle to high poverty levels. It is our goal to provide students with the skills necessary to succeed in the world of business.
