My students need a variety of books across all curriculum subjects. These 6 kits will allow my kids to build background knowledge on all subject matter as well as increase their reading skills.
We all know that reading is important for success, now and later in life. I would love to have a variety of books for our classroom to engage the students in what they are interested in reading. I want to capture their learning in the books they read.
I work in a very poor school district in Florida.
We have just switched to Common Core for the main curriculum to be taught to the children. I am in a first grade classroom that includes, regular education students, speech and ESE students. My class room is very diverse and my classroom needs diverse resources.
My Project
These 6 kits will allow my students to engage in the reading skills they are being taught daily, as well as expand their Nonfiction background in science and social studies. These 6 kits will also engage the students to start thinking about text to self, text to world, and text to text like questions while reading which engages higher order thinking. These kits can be used by all my students in the classroom because of the variety of subject matter that are in these kits.
Please help me in building background knowledge for the students so they will want to read and learn while they are reading.
Reading is so important because it is everywhere we go in society. These kits will allow the students to practice everything that goes along with reading and the kits are great for writing prompts, oral discussions with class and can even be used for the accelerated reader program.
