Our school is a Title I school in a high-poverty area heavily impacted by COVID-19. Most students come from households that are under-resourced even though families are working very hard to make it. One thing they have in common is that they are almost all living at the poverty level, and some come from homes that are unstable. Many of our students are doing without things that bring them comfort and joy.
Our school is a safe haven for them which emphasizes the importance of learning.
Since I teach to such a wide range of abilities, I believe it is important for the students to learn at their own pace in order to be successful.
Once the students feel confident in their abilities, they will strive to build on their skills and seek further success in their learning experience. This year, I am extremely focused on social-emotional learning, mental health, building a safe environment within my classroom and our school, and creating strong and trusting relationships with my students.
My Project
My students need Mug Press, an Epson EcoTank to convert for Sublimation, and Sublimation Sublies to express themselves in the most artistic of ways.
Right now, more than ever, our kids need to express their emotions, have an outlet to express them, and feel HAPPY within.
Having these supplies would allow them to create a custom design on a mug, a tumbler, or a shirt to use for themselves or to gift to others. They will have a positive message with artwork to look at throughout the day during sad times or learn how to spread happiness to others when they are sad by creating a custom gift for them.
My students will understand the value of making someone smile and have an understanding that happiness is not monetary, but an inner feeling no one can take from you.
Sublimation and the steps to prepare not only teaches the students to express their creativity, but also helps them develop life skills!
