I teach reading, writing, and social studies to an amazing group of 2nd graders in Katy, Texas. I work at a Title 1 school, where funds are scarce among families and home support is often lacking. I have ESL students, Dyslexic students, ADHD students, and general population students in my classroom. While my students are a unique blend academic abilities and personalities, we work together to overcome our odds and get the most out of our learning experiences.
In our classroom, the goal is to create a love for education and build life long learners.
My students have been through a lot this year due to Hurricane Harvey and they deserve a classroom environment that helps them succeed and grow. My students are amazing individuals who have a passion and love for learning and always work hard to do their best.
My Project
Imagine a second grader's desk. If you picture something like crumbled up papers, broken crayons, missing pencils shoved all the way in the back, last week's missing homework, and possibly a banana that was from snack two days ago, then you have an accurate vision of what teachers see everyday! Student's are responsible for a lot in today's society, so expecting them to keep everything nice and tidy might seem a bit overzealous, but organization is a skill that is necessary for success!
How many times have you heard a child say, "I lost my folder" or "I can't find my paper"?
As teachers, we hear these phrases multiple times on a daily basis. I am hoping to combat this issue by utilizing these containers to not only keep track of students' supplies, but to also teach my sweet kiddos organizational skills that will help them out later in life. These Sterilite containers will immensely help my students become responsible and organized in a developmentally appropriate way.
