Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students in my Crafts and Ceramics I and II classes come from a low socioeconomic and underprivileged environment. The majority of my classes are made up of tenth to twelfth grade, male and female students of African American and Hispanic descent. Living in the city environment that surrounds them, students channel all of their demographics into the art they create in my classes.

My students come to school each day knowing they get a chance to relieve the stresses and triumphs they are faced within their home lives.

Even before entering my classroom, students are eager, excited, and ready to get creative! Many come during their lunch to continue working on projects and some even stay after school!

My Project

The classes I teach involve a lot of supplies and materials. Often things that are large, heavy or just takes up a lot of space. When we moved to our newly built school three years ago, they did not provide much room for storage of materials, supplies and student work.

Having extra shelves secured up on the walls will allow for more room for projects and supplies to be stored.

Receiving this type of shelving will also allow for the larger supplies to be stored higher up on the wall which will make room for smaller items and student work to be stored on ground level.
