My students need Common Core Language Practice cards, Read and Revise Write and Wipe Practice Cards and Ready to Write! Prompt Box to develop and enhance writing skills.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Impromptu writing can be difficult. However, with consistent practice it becomes an easier task.
My classroom is comprised of a wonderfully diverse group of students from inner-city neighborhoods.
As is the case with many of these areas, almost all of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch. These children are coming to me anxious to learn and ready to absorb new information. My challenge is to present new concepts in a way that will impact the amount of information they will retain. Writing skills form the foundation they need to support themselves as they advance down their educational path through middle school and onto college.
My Project
My students need Common Core Language Practice cards, Read and Revise Write and Wipe Practice Cards and Ready to Write! Prompt Box to develop and enhance writing skills. My students are eager to become better writers. These resources will assist in my students' development of grammar and spelling. The high interest topics will help them develop their ability to find key details and to write a report. They will be able to choose a prompt and use a word bank to deter writers' block. This will provide encouragement by taking the stress off of them to create meaningful writing pieces in conjunction with learning new information.
These materials will allow my students to develop traits of good writing.
They will get solid practice in writing interesting pieces. They will also get additional exposure and examples for the types of writing the need to be doing in fifth grade such as narratives, informational, explanatory, and opinion/argument pieces. All of this supports the National Common Core Standards.
