Stuff Matters Especially in the Lab

Help me give my students chemicals, burets, and Bunsen burners to do essential chemistry labs!

My Project

My students are curious, hands-on learners who thrive when they can engage directly with science. They come from diverse backgrounds and are eager to connect classroom concepts with real-world applications. Many of them are interested in STEM careers, and I want to give them a strong foundation built on inquiry, experimentation, and critical thinking.

I'm requesting key lab materials — Bunsen burners, burets, solutions, and other essentials — so my students can perform titrations, single-replacement redox reactions, and other reactions, including the visually engaging copper cycle lab.

The copper cycle takes students on a journey through chemical transformations, where copper is changed, recovered, and transformed again in a cycle of reactions. It reinforces key chemistry concepts, such as oxidation-reduction, conservation of mass, and chemical change, as well as teaching them basic lab techniques.

I’m also requesting class copies of the book Stuff Matters by Mark Miodownik, which connects the chemistry of materials to everyday life—from steel to chocolate to aerogel. Select chapters will be woven into our curriculum to grab students’ attention and show them how chemistry shapes the world they live in.
