Studying Environments Through Aquatic Observation

My Students

I would like to do a study on aquatic environments with my class and need an aquarium to create the environment.

My students are hard working and creative, but they also in need of science experiences to learn from.

Because we are a high needs school with a high poverty level many of the students struggle with basic needs. Some of those needs are physical and some of them are academic. We spend much of our time working to help students with reading, writing, and math sometimes the other areas get overlooked. My goal this year is to make sure my students are exposed to the scientific process in a way that helps them understand the true nature of science and bring away knowledge and appreciation for science at a deeper level.

My Project

I have had aquariums in past classes and seen first hand the wonder and intrigue that students find in learning and discovering about fish and other aquatic species. In my class I emphasize the importance of our environment and how our actions have an affect on the world around us. Students in my class have the opportunity to research and discover many different aspects of the environment through projects, field trips and learning experiences. This project focuses on building and documenting an aquatic environment as a class and working to understand the balance within the ecosystem created.

The aquarium, aquarium supplies and books that your support will provide will inspire and instill the sense of wonder about the world that nature constantly teaches us if we only stop to look and listen.

Instead of saying "I'm not good at science" because they haven't been exposed to it, students will instead say "I love science,it is really interesting and has taught me so much about the world and the environment around us."
