My Project
This year, my school will offer Environmental Science as an elective class. My students are going to be excited to learn with these materials!
These kits will help students to understand ecosystems through hands-on, authentic learning.
With the Building Ecological Pyramids refill kit, students will dissect owl pellets to explore how energy moves through an ecosystem. Students will analyze animal remains to determine food chains and energy flow, analyze environmental impacts of their own food selections, and create food pyramids based on their own diets. Paper plates, tape, and graphing paper are needed but not in the kit. With the Sustaining Ecosystems kit, students will test abiotic factors and analyze the effects on the biotic community, determine the conditions that are required to sustain a balanced, functioning ecosystem, and design and create a functional model of an ecosystem. Two aquarium kits are needed to house pond snails and fish. My students will be excited to set up these tanks with plants, animals, and decomposers!
