My Students

Have you ever found yourself at a loss for words? My students sometimes struggle to put their ideas into writing, but their creativity can really shine through in other ways! My students all attend the public high school in our town and all of them have special needs.

Some of my students have learning disabilities, some have autism and all of them are uniquely talented when given a chance to show what they can do.

I am energized and excited each morning by the idea of getting to spend my day with such remarkable young people. They demonstrate kindness, patience and endurance on a constant basis. They also show a willingness and eagerness to learn, which many people often feel is lacking in high school classrooms nowadays. My students prove the doubters wrong! It is my job as a teacher, to give my students every opportunity to succeed. It is their job to wow me every day. It is a job they do well.

My Project

My students benefit from learning different strategies for getting (and staying) organized for their classes and for preparing for tests and quizzes. Helping them develop good test preparation and organizational habits now will also ensure that they are successful once they get to college.

As most of my students have memory deficits that make it difficult for them to learn and retain new information, I try to teach them new, more dynamic ways to review the material they have been taught in their other classes.

The square origami paper, colored printer paper, and black pens will allow my students to make visual organizers and foldable review tools for learning vocabulary words, key terms, and important names.

The binders and folders will help my students develop a system for organizing work they still need to complete and work that is ready to be handed in.
