Study Island Math and Reading Saga

My Students

Every morning we begin the day with 30 ten year olds rushing in the room eager to start the day! We routinely start with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by, "This is My Time and My Place, I will accept the challenge!" The day has begun, the challenge accepted! We charge ahead!

My 30 students are predominantly white from middle class homes.

Our school is in a suburb of a town not far from the capital city. We have 800+ students in our school. A new school will be opening soon to bring our population down to about 500 students. My students are amazingly motivated. It is cool to be smart and to try hard in my classroom. We have a sense of community fueled by a respect for individuality and common needs. We encourage optimism and enthusiasm as we work towards the common goal of being ready for our individual futures, Middle School and the Common Core testing.

My Project

The Study Island and Reading Eggs websites will be used to supplement existing practices. The most important way these programs will be used will be to shore up the students who need extra help and to push the exceptional students who will exceed the targets. Because the program is tied to our fall testing scores, (NWEA) each student's individual pathway will be strategically placed in exactly the areas that need the most work. This individualized support will benefit every student, no matter what their level of understanding of assigned topics. The program will also allow me to quickly access progress and areas of concern in one convenient location.

Allowing each student to access programs that are individualized to meet their needs will be amazingly beneficial to my classroom - especially for the lower students who need the extra help and the upper students who need the opportunity to fly even higher.

Everyone feels better when they know they are succeeding. These programs will enable the students to have even more optimism about their efforts in school. It will also give them an extra measure of confidence as they face the spring tests.
