Help me give my students art supplies! In August, I was assigned to teach two sections of Studio Art. I was given a $200 budget to make this happen. We need paint, paper, markers, pencils, and brushes.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Title I public high school with a diverse community of 2249 students. Many students find great success and opportunity through the arts and athletics.
My students are thrilled when they make something they love.
I want them to be able to grow as much as possible artistically.
Art students range tremendously as special education, general education, and advanced placement students all make art together. Regardless of these categories, the artists’ minds know no boundaries. Some of my special education students are my most creative and driven artists.
I also want them to expand their exposure to different ways of making art. Their time in art class should be an oasis of creativity where they foster skills and confidence in themselves. This intellectual ownership extends to better engagement, more self-confidence, and more awareness of the world around them. Art reflects their physical world, the social world, and their limitless imagination.
My Project
With a 200 dollar budget for 60 students, I am running out of ways to make engaging art. I purchased some supplies this fall and stretched the supplies as much as possible. We have now run out of yellow and white paint and the brushes we have are stiff and falling apart. The students are much more engaged when they have projects that involve color instead of just pencils on paper. They will be so happy to paint on paper that doesn't curl up when they are painting and use a variety of art materials. This donation will make a huge difference to their happiness, productivity, and creativity.
