This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a self-contained special education teacher who teaches students that have a variety of disabilities which include, autism, speech and language impairment, ADHD, and dyslexia.
My students have difficulty focusing and staying on task.
My classroom also includes a wide range of recent immigrants from various cultures. I create my own lesson plans to differentiate for every students' learning needs, skills, abilities and cultural diversity. Because it is a Title I school, students often begin the school year without the proper supplies and we have limited resources.
I would love for all of my students to be motivated to learn, have fun, be comfortable and have access to the same materials in order to be successful.
My Project
Bean bag chairs are one form of flexible seating. It is very difficult for students with disabilities to sit still and focus. It gives the students a chance to get out of their regular desk and chair but continue to learn in a relaxing, inviting environment.
Having a comfortable chair will enhance their focus and motivation to learn.
These jumbo bean bags will make my students who are going to middle school next year feel comfortable while reading or writing throughout the day. As a teacher, it is hard to get your whole class that has special needs to enjoy reading and stay focused. Having a comfortable, enjoyable and welcoming environment is essential for students to become excited and eager learners.
"If it's the right chair, it doesn't take to long to get comfortable in it." -Robert De Niro
