This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with 31 super students with Autism every week. These students are challenged daily to effectively communicate and interact with others. A multimedia projector and Mimio interactive white board will offer my students the multi-sensory learning opportunities they need to acquire new skills.
I am a Speech Language Pathologist in an inner city, high need community.
I provide direct therapy and language support services to students in 5 classrooms in our district based Autism Spectrum Disorder program. These students are in 1st through 8th grade. The students in this program have significant language deficits. They benefit from multi-sensory learning opportunities paired with visual supports when acquiring new concepts. These students need to be taught many of the skills that are acquired naturally by their typical peers, specifically related to social language and interaction skills.
My Project
I am requesting a multimedia projector and Mimio interactive white board to offer my students multi-sensory learning opportunities. This technology will allow me to provide the interactive visual learning opportunities that they need. I already have many language based computer programs that are compatible with the Mimio board. I've seen students with Autism have great success with the lessons when used on interactive white boards. The Mimio board is portable and can be used with any white board with a multimedia projector and computer allowing me to take it to each of the classrooms that I visit. This technology will bring many language learning opportunities to my students and build important language skills as well as provide many social interaction opportunities.

The crucial skills that will be acquired with the technology will directly impact the success of my students this year and will build important communication skills that will last a lifetime.
