This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach students with moderate to severe Autism. My students struggle with communication, social, behavior, functional skills and academics. They have different sensory needs.

"If you could see what they could do." I love finding things that interest them and motivate them to participate and engage in learning.

They love to learn we just have to find different ways to have them demonstrate what they are learning since they are non-verbal and can't tell us. It is very rewarding to see them get excited about learning! They are AUsome!!!

My Project

My students with Autism are able to demonstrate they understand through performance tasks using hands on manipulatives. They struggle with simple tasks like writing letters and words using your standard paper pencil activities. They require materials where they can show me they can form letters with letter building blocks or they can form and spell words with letter tiles. They need materials that motivate them to want to learn and participate, that are interactive, and that meet their many sensory needs. I’d like to provide these type of materials during writing lessons and also have them available at centers so they can show me they can write and form letters and words.
