My students need playground equipment to help them experience the power of play. Play will help children become self-efficient problem solvers because during play children create and solve their own problems.
"Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play, children learn how to learn." - O. Fred Donaldson
Our students come to school eager to learn with their minds and hearts open for everything their teachers have to offer.
School is a very important part of our students' lives.
I teach at a Title I school with over 70% of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch and all of our students get free breakfast in the mornings. Our school has a backpack program that sends home food with kids over the weekend and offers free lunch for students over the summer break.
My Project
There is power in play! Recess is an exciting and an important part of a child's day. From exercise to socialization, recess time encompasses a variety of necessary skills needed for healthy development. Play is so important in the life of a child. The play shouldn’t stop when they begin school.
Our school has a small playground that several grade levels use.
We have five classes per grade level and have over a 100 students at a time playing.
It is difficult for all students to use our current playground with two slides and a tunnel all at the same time. We have students having to use the track because it gets overcrowded.
Our school would love to add some other playground equipment such as the climber I have requested to give the students other options of play when the slides become overcrowded.
The CDC states, “…physical activity can have an impact on cognitive skills and attitudes and academic behavior, all of which are important components of improved academic performance." Please help our students experience the power of play to help them grow as problem solvers.
